Stevenage Borough Council wants to install InPost parcel lockers at 21 more locations around the town, and residents have until midnight on Wednesday 19 August to comment on the proposed sites. (Stevenage Borough Council, 21 July 2026)

The council says the extension comes “following the success of our parcel locker scheme and growing demand from residents and local businesses”. The lockers are open 24 hours a day and are pitched as a fix for missed deliveries, as well as a way to cut delivery-van traffic on residential streets.

The proposed locations are: Harrow Court, Fred Millard Court, Hendren Court, Primrose Court, Lonsdale Court, Roundmead, Twin Foxes House, Brodie Court, Pitt Court, Westwood Court, Jardine Court, Highcroft (The Chace), The Glebe, Kimbolton Crescent, George Lighton Court, Truro Court, Norman Court, Wellfield Court, Runswick Court, Barry Court and Shaftesbury Court.

How the scheme has grown

The council signed its contract with InPost on 31 January 2023, according to its own climate action tracker, which files the lockers under transport emissions. Three units are in place so far, at Primett Road car park, Church Lane car park and the Bus Interchange, with a further six listed as scheduled for February 2026.

The same tracker, last updated on 7 August 2026, describes a pilot programme of approximately twenty lockers in residential areas, which is what the 21-site list now out for comment appears to deliver. The council’s stated case for the scheme includes a claim that locker collection cuts last-mile carbon emissions by as much as 75 per cent compared with door-to-door delivery.

What it means for you

If you live near one of the 21 sites, this is the window to support or object. Email ParcelLocker@Stevenage.gov.uk, phone 01438 242242, or write to Parcel Locker Team, Stevenage Borough Council, Daneshill House, Danestrete, Stevenage, SG1 1HN. The council’s wording is unambiguous: “This consultation ends at midnight on Wednesday 19 August.”

If you just want to use a locker today, the three existing units at Primett Road car park, Church Lane car park and the Bus Interchange are already live, and because they work around the clock they suit collection either side of a commute (Stevenage train times).

If a locker is proposed outside your block, the council has not published unit sizes or exact positions for each site in its announcement, so ask the Parcel Locker Team for the detail on your address before the deadline rather than after installation.
